Combination feeding: keep nursing, bottles and pumping clear

Read a mixed feeding record without double-counting expressed milk or turning nursing minutes into a guessed milk volume.

One day can contain different kinds of events

Nursing, an expressed-milk bottle, a formula bottle and a pump session can all appear in one day's record. Each describes a different event. Keep the categories visible instead of combining them into one apparent milk total.

The existing bottle-and-pumping guide explains individual entries. This worksheet helps you interpret how those entries relate to one another, including milk that is expressed now and offered in a bottle later.

Record milk expressed separately from milk taken

A pump entry records milk expressed. A bottle entry records a feed. If expressed milk is used in a later bottle, the later bottle is a feeding event; the earlier pump output is not an additional amount the baby already drank. You may connect the entries with an optional reference without adding them together.

Keep nursing time in minutes and measured bottle amounts in one clearly labeled volume unit. Do not convert nursing minutes into ounces or milliliters. If an amount is unknown, mark it unknown instead of adding a guess to a precise total.

Agree what a bottle entry means

When more than one person records care, agree whether a bottle amount means offered or actually taken. Write the convention beside a shared sheet. Record each event once and leave a note if a caregiver later corrects it.

Nuzzle keeps nursing, bottle and pump entries in the baby's record. Use the record to describe the day; discuss changes to feeding or supplementation with your care team. This page does not set amounts or a feeding plan.

Mixed-event interpretation worksheet

Use one row per event. Keep the measurement, its meaning and any related event together. A blank amount is not a reported zero.

On a small screen, scroll the blank table horizontally. The printout includes the whole table.

Questions to keep beside the record

This sheet records observations. It does not set feeding amounts, schedules or a medical plan. For questions about your baby's health, contact your care team.
