Feeding interval calculator

A feeding interval is the time from one feed's start to the next. Enter both start times to see the hours and minutes between them, even across midnight.

To count the time between baby feeds, subtract the first feed's start from the next feed's start. Add 24 hours when the next feed starts after midnight. Use the same count for breastfeeding and for a bottle. The result describes feeds you recorded. It does not say when to feed next.

How to calculate a feeding interval

  1. First feed started. Enter the date and time the earlier feed started.
  2. Next feed started. Enter the date and time the following feed started. It has to be later than the first.
  3. Read the hours and minutes. The result is the time from the first start to the next start. How long either feed lasted is not part of that number.

How long is the time between feed starts?

Enter two recorded start times, with their dates. The result is the interval from the first start to the next start, even across midnight.

Add both start times to see the interval.

This describes recorded feeds. It does not recommend when to feed next. Values stay on your device; time-zone and daylight-saving changes are not included.

How do you count the time between baby feeds?

Count from the start of one feed to the start of the next. That start-to-start interval is the same for breastfeeding and for a bottle. A feed that starts at 11:50 pm and a next feed that starts at 12:20 am are 30 minutes apart.

How long the feed lasted does not change the interval. Include the date with each time so a feed on either side of midnight is counted correctly.

Does the calculator say when to feed next?

No. The result describes feeds you already recorded. It does not say when to feed next, how many times to breastfeed, or whether an interval is typical. For questions about your baby's feeding, contact your care team.

Questions about feeding intervals

How do you count breastfeeding times?

Write down when each nursing session started. The time between breastfeeding sessions is counted from start to start, the same way as a bottle. Switching sides during one session does not start a new interval unless you and your care team count each side as its own session.

How do you calculate time left for the next feed?

This calculator cannot tell you how much time is left until a baby should eat. It only measures the time between two feed starts you already know. When to offer the next feed is a decision for you and your baby's care team.

What is the difference between a feeding interval and a feeding log?

A feeding interval is one number: how long from one start to the next. An infant feeding log is the record around that number — breastfeeding or a bottle, the time, the side or the amount of milk, and who wrote it down.

Record every feed start in Nuzzle

On iPhone and Android, Nuzzle records nursing, bottles and pumping with start times, and shows the time since the last feed. Purchase options and local prices are shown in the app.
